Another half marathon...
Yes, I've done a few before (only three, plus a few 10k's) but there's always another amazing cause out there to keep me doing more! This time, I'm raising money for an amazing project called Homeside, which is improving the lives of people with dementia and their care givers through music and reading.
Who am i?
I work in the Research and Innovation team at ARU - helping academics at the university work with external organisations on all sorts of incredible research projects... like Homeside!
I'm no elite runner, but I like to keep active and try to take on a challenge or two each year to support a worthy cause. I jumped at the chance to run the half marathon for such a great project that ARU is involved with. I hope to keep up my track record of finishing under 2 hours.
Where will the money go?
Our Cambridge Institute for Music Therapy Research conducts world-leading studies into the impact music and drama therapy can have for dementia patients, stroke patients, people with autism and people with mental health issues.
Dementia is the leading cause of death in the UK, yet research into treatment and therapy is still relatively low. The Homeside project aims to decrease the behavioural and psychological symptoms for sufferers through training caregivers to conduct music or reading activities.
